Of all the smartphones of the Apple brand, one of the most controversial is the iPhone SE 2020. Released in 2016, the original model was quite modern and compliant with the requirements in force at the time. That said, the current version of the smartphone is more of a compromise than a truly interesting development.
The hardware was, admittedly, quite powerful, but combined with a small screen size, an unconventional design and more than modest battery life, the smartphone’s characteristics did not allow it to come even close to the bestselling models. There is no doubt that Apple is well aware of this, and from the perspective of the company’s interests it makes sense to use a case from a more modern smartphone and create a new iPhone SE based on it. However, all indications are that this won’t happen. We can’t expect such a solution until at least 2024.
The next iPhone SE model will be unveiled this year and, like both previous versions, it will be released in early spring (predicted to be in March or April).
Unexpectedly, the iPhone SE 2020 has demonstrated some features that the smartphone model Pro of the 13 range doesn’t have. It’s also worth noting that while the SE 2 hit the market in April 2020 without a full presentation, its descendant is expected to be officially unveiled, and this event will kick off a whole cycle of online Apple events. Offline ones won’t be held yet.
The presentation of the 3rd generation iPhone SE will take place very soon, but there’s not much reason to expect it. The smartphone will not have an updated body and will remain an exact copy of the iPhone 8 released back in 2017. We’ll have to wait a few more years until the iPhone SE gets the body from the 11 model. But on the technical side, the changes are expected to happen.
The novelty, according to preliminary data, will have this set of parameters.
The stuffing does not particularly delight. The undoubted pluses are that there will be more internal memory, the smartphone will have an upgraded processor and 5G support will appear. But why this power, if the technical capabilities are very limited, is unclear. And as far as memory is concerned, it’s obvious that it needed to be increased. So there’s not much reason to be surprised.
How Apple will price the iPhone SE 2022 is not yet known. But chances are high that the price won’t go up and will stay at $399 for the standard smartphone. It could even go down in price, perhaps to $349.
Of course, if there are technical improvements, it is not easy to reduce the price. After all, the processor is more expensive, and you have to pay 5G fees. But you also have to take into account the fact that the smartphone has an outdated case from five years ago.
Apple definitely understands that in the configuration that’s planned, the new iPhone SE won’t generate much revenue, and at the same time they can’t help but release the most budget-friendly of their smartphones. Otherwise, consumers won’t have an alternative to cheap Android tech.
